DJ Shimza’s Biography
Born 1984, Ashley Raphala popularly known by his stage name DJ Shimza is a prolific DJ and record producer in South Africa. He became popular after he won the Red Square DJ competition in 2006. His style of music is Afro-tech and he has been able to perform with top artists in South Africa. Venturing into house music in 2003 he has been able to make a name for himself in the genre. He revealed that DJ Black Coffee is one of his major inspirations.
Family and Beginning
DJ Shimza is originally from Swaziland but was raised in Tembisa Township, Ekurhuleni. He had a very close relationship with his grandfather who always calls him Shimi. The DJ started practicing his craft at the early age of 14 years, while still in high school. Over time he started going for talent shows, till he finally got his break.

DJ Shimza is an High school graduate. His love for music and beat formation could be traced back to his school days.
Musical Milestone
DJ Shimza got his major break after he won the Guateng Carnival DJ competition in 2011. The exposure that came with winning the competition also led him to start working with equipment. Although music for him had started at a very early age where he would participate in his high school talent shows. After a while he establish and hosted his popular annual festival tagged “DJ Shimza’s One Man Show” which saw him giving back to the society.
He has since his debut released a couple of top notch songs and collaborations which have made him one of the most sought after DJs in SA.
